Fingers crossed this will be our last weekend in Level 3! Below are some of my top picks to grab dinner from.
Casablanca
Sylvia Park
Order via their website https://www.casablancacafenz.co.nz/, or call 09 573 6272.
A little but different than your standard takeaway fare but absolutely delicious and very satisfying. I often go here with Mum for lunch, the food is always super consistent and always hits the spot. Also their hummus isn't your average Lisa's crap, no, no, no its smooth, velvety and almost melts in your mouth. My Dad literally gulped his down by the spoonful last night.
What to Order
The Casa Express (is the same as their Lunch Plate) - hummus, tabouli, flatbread and your choice of chicken, lamb or falafel. I love their falafel personally!
This is a little on the expensive side at $22 but think of it as an alternative to going out for dinner and it suddenly becomes justifiable.
Beach Pizza
Beachlands
Order via their website, https://beachpizza.co.nz/ and if you click order online it will take you to a Menulog page where you can place your order.
The best takeaway pizzas out East, I personally prefer their pizza to many similar places and pizzerias. The bases are always so crisp and the pizzas are packed full of toppings. They also have a few types that are a little more interesting than usual
What to Order
The Extreme Bacon pizza is absolutely delicious, and you would be silly if you didn't grab a garlic bread to go with it.
The single combo; a large signature pizza, garlic bread and 1.5l drink will set you back $19.99 - super good value for money if you split between two. Otherwise an extreme pizza alone (like the Extreme Bacon) will cost you $15.99.
Thai Family Restaurant
Pakuranga
Order online at their website, https://www.thaifamilyrestaurant.co.nz/
Thai cuisine has to be one of the best cuisines known to man. It's salty, it's creamy and its fresh all at once. I've got to be clear though, each Thai restaurant has their one stand out dish and I've found out East that no one place does everything really well. My fave for pad thai/noodles/rice is Benjarong in Howick. I'm not a fan of their curries though, they're a little too watery for my liking. My friends rate Thai Passion in Cockle Bay for their curries, but their pad thai isn't great! Thai Family serves the best ever version of my fave Thai dish - Satay Chicken.
What to Order
Peanut Sauce (stir fry), with chicken. Honestly it's heavenly. I thought my judgment may be clouded by the fact that I first consumed it as part of a BYO situation, but have since been back and got it takeaway and can confirm it is delicious!
The price of this dish is $20, but given that it comes with a serve of jasmine rice it is the perfect size to feed two.
Portofino
Howick
View their menu at their website, http://www.portofino.co.nz/our-menu/ and call 09 532 8161 to place your order.
Anyone who says they don't like creamy pasta is either a liar or insane. Portofino's portions are decent, and their food always satisfies a pasta craving.
What to Order
The spaghetti alla carbonara is my favourite, but even though I'm not a huge lasagna fan I admit they do a great lasagna too!
The price of these is a little on the expensive side (but they are big portions!). A carbonara will set you back $19.50 and a lasagna will cost you $22.50.
Stay tuned for a post early next week on the cafes that didn't open at Level 3 but will be reopening their doors in Level 2. A few of my fave cafes out East feature that I can't wait to return to!!!
