These eateries made the decision to not reopen under level 3 guidelines so will be needing support more than ever under level 2!

The Burbs Eatery

Farm Cove

The loveliest owners, delicious cabinet food and seriously good staple menu options. This cafe is tucked away but it’s super easy to see why it’s a favourite with the locals! It’s the perfect place for brunch, morning tea or grab a takeaway coffee and walk the Farm Cove Rotary walk just a couple streets over.

What to Order

The smashed avo (available seasonally) is probably my favourite out east - think coconut bread, feta and deliciously ripe avos. The scones are also super good, and my mum rates the custard tarts so much that she may sometimes make a special trip just for them!!

Lola

Mt Wellington

A relatively new opening, run by the same people as Flour Mill in Epsom (highly recommended). They have an amazing cabinet filled with sandwiches, salads, sweet slices - definitely go with a couple of people so you can mix and match! Their menu is also super good, a little unique and there are definitely some standouts. They also have a few goodies pre-packaged to takeaway like homemade marshmallows, chutney and juices in glass bear bottles!

What to Order

The BLAT in the cabinet is seriously good, it’s served with a delish chutney and is also super good value for money. Any of the sweet slices are super good - I’m a sucker for their chocolate caramel slice.

Woolfy's

Highbrook

Woolfy's is tucked away in Highbrook, it’s usually filled of local officer workers and has a super nice interior. Their cabinet food and coffee are great, I’m not a fan of the menu items myself - but that’s mainly because the portions are huge and most of the dishes have eggs! Woolfy's always has a bit of a bustle to it which makes the vibe super upbeat.

What to Order

Anything from the cabinet! Their slices and sandwiches are always changing and their scones are always good. Go for a friend and share a sweet and savoury cabinet item! I highly recommend grabbing a coffee too.

Little Hinge

Maraetai

This place is seriously underrated. They do consistently good (strong) coffee and their menu is literally everything you could ever want, and nothing that you don’t. It’s more of a takeaway kind of place, but there are a few tables outside that you can sit at - otherwise the beach is just down the road.

What to Order

The bacon butty is the perfect hangover cure, and the coffees are always amazing.

Wild Wheat

Howick

They have been open for deliveries and limited pick ups during level 3, but their full range of goodies are only available under level 2. My family is obsessed with Wild Wheat, it seems like every Saturday morning a range of goodies magically appear in the cupboard. Their bread alone makes it the best bakery in Howick, but also their pre-prepared sandwiches and cabinet goodies are definitely worth a try!

What to Order

The Ham Pide is the best sandwich out east - so this is a must order. It’s full of flavour and humongous too! Also the caramel slice is currently my favourite (this is a big call!) Their coffee is also really good, and I would recommend grabbing a few bagels to take home to toast!
