Four weeks of Nespresso, home baking and eating dinner round the dining table every single night are about to come to an end! Local hospo businesses need support now more than ever, so consider your takeaway coffee and smashed avo as being delicious AND also a moral act of goodwill.

Here are my top five eateries in the Manukau Region that are open in Lockdown!

1. Sumthin Dumplin

Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga

https://sumthindumplin.co.nz/ and @sumthindumplin on Instagram

Sumthin dumplin are located in the CBD, but out east we are incredibly lucky that they are offering a pick up service! They make the most delicious, flavoursome, hugeeeee dumplings that are covered in the best sauces you will ever taste. If you haven't tried them out before because the trek into town is too much, you have to get your hands on these ASAP.

Sumthin Dumplin are taking orders via their website https://sumthindumplin.co.nz/, here you can find their schedule. They then will park up their vehicle at a specific location and come over to your car and deliver the dumplings! Currently the East Auckland pick up point is at Lloyd Elsmore in Pakuranga and orders can be placed for Tuesday nights 5:30pm and Thursday lunchtime 12pm.

Sumthin Dumplin are offering mixed family boxes of dumplings; these are mix of their pork and cabbage, beef & cheese (my absolute fave) and pork and prawn with a mix of sauces.

WHAT TO ORDER:

A mixed dumpling box to feed your whole family!!!

2. Cre.ate Cafe

21 Central Terrace, Howick (behind the Howick Information Centre)

@createcafenz on Instagram

Cre.ate do the best coffee in Howick (HUGE CALL!). They use Ozone beans and they know how to make it perfectly! They have lots of healthy options, and usually run a fully customisable menu (some customisation is available via the app during lockdown). The staff are also lovely!

Cre.ate have also partnered with 'On The Go', via the app you can order and pay for your food/drink and then pick it up from outside the cafe.

Cre.ate are offering coffees, smoothies, health shots, breakfast options and salad bowls.

WHAT TO ORDER:

Grab a coffee on your morning walk and also the Avocado Smash or the Oasis Smoothie Bowl.

3. Melba Manukau

1 Ronwood Ave, Manukau

@melbamanukau on Instagram

Melba is the best cafe in Manukau hands down. Their service is always outstanding, it is always packed to the brim, and all their meals are good value for money. The coffee is also good, and very consistent.

Melba have partnered with 'On The Go', an app that allows you to place and pay for your order and then have it waiting for you at a table in the doorway of the cafe ready for you to pick up.

Melba are offering coffees, drinks, cabinet food, breakfast, lunch and dinner options so there is plenty to choose from!

WHAT TO ORDER:

The Honey Garlic Chicken Salad (this is by far my favourite salad of all the cafes I've been to in Auckland!)

4. Farmhouse

400 Papakura-Clevedon Rd, Clevedon

https://www.farmhousedeli.co.nz/ and @thefarmhousenz on Instagram

Farmhouse is set in the most idyllic location ever, and sitting out in the sun on one of their beanbags has to be the best way to enjoy a Saturday morning out East. BUT their food and coffee is more than enough reason to pay them a visit. They also are keeping their dog walking track open for people to use, so you can grab a takeaway coffee and a bite to eat and then go for a walk afterwards!

Farmhouse have just launched their website, where you can order online and see what items are available. https://www.farmhousedeli.co.nz/. Food must be ordered a day in advance, drinks can be ordered on the day of. An email will confirm your order and when you arrive to pick it up text through your order number to 0276293757. They will get in ready for you and place it on a table, at which stage you can get out of the comfort of your car and pick-up contactless!

Farmhouse are offering coffees, brioches, banana bread, croissants, sandwiches, fruit buns, cold drinks and some food items like nut butters, pesto, milk and honey.

WHAT TO ORDER:

The coffee here is divine and I definitely recommend ordering! The true star of the show at Farmhouse is their savoury brioche; the best tasting savoury cabinet food item I think I have ever tried. It seriously melts in your mouth and is the perfect combination of herby, cheesy and buttery. I would recommend ordering a few at once and taking them home for your bubble; I promise they won't last long!!!

5. Moustache Cookies

40 Cavendish Drive, Manukau (behind Tile Depot)

https://moustache.co.nz/ and @moustachenz on Instagram

People that haven't tried Moustache Cookies genuinely haven't experienced what a cookie should taste like. They are 1000 times better than Subway cookies (which are amazing in their own right), and they offer cookie pies and cookie cakes as well!!! They just opened their Manukau location moments before the lockdown, so definitely deserve your support!

Moustache are taking orders via their website, https://moustache.co.nz/

Pick your cookies, click add to cart and then select store pickup. To see the full range of options available to pick up click the side bar on the left hand side, then 'Auckland', you should then be able to choose from Auckland (cookie pies, giant cookies etc.), classic cookies (singular cookies) and vegan/gluten free cookies.

Moustache are offering cookie pies, cookie cakes, singular cookies and giant cookies.

WHAT TO ORDER:

If you haven't tried Moustache before then definitely order the Party Pie; this contains 8 different cookies so is a great way to find your favourite. Otherwise the Caramilk cookie pie has cult like status, and I can confirm it is heavenly! My favourite cookie flavour is oreo marshmallow, so if you feel like you just want one or two singular cookies definitely give this flavour a go.

Others that deserve special mention are;

Daisy Changs (open for coffees/cabinet food and then for dinner)

The Corner Bar Howick (open for coffees and also offer a food menu day and night)

Shamrock Cottage (open for coffees and they have the yummiest scones)

Let me know if you have any other favourite local eateries that you will be visiting!
