There are a HUGE number of foodie places to visit in Queenstown but some definitely are better than others. Most are on the more expensive side so it's worth doing your research before you drop some decent dollars on food!
Left to right; Bespoke Kitchen Interior, Akarua entryway, Akarua arancini balls and halloumi
If I only had 24 hours in QT my perfect foodie day would consist of coffee at Bespoke Kitchen, morning tea at Fergbaker, late lunch and tasting rack of wine at Akarua and then a pizza to share and mulled wine at The Cow.
DAYTIME
Left to right; Pastrami bagel from FergBaker, FergBaker interior, Bespoke Kitchen chia pudding
Bespoke Kitchen
The BEST cafe in Queenstown. Located just out of the centre of town this cafe has friendly service, great coffee, a huge range of food and an amazing vibe to it!
Go for a coffee and something from the huge range of cabinet food
Expect to pay standard cafe pricing!
Akarua Wines & Kitchen By Artisan
Most wineries in Queenstown are slightly pretentious and a little intimidating, but Akarua is an exception. They are super friendly and welcoming, and have a pretty large menu with quite a few different choices depending if you feel like a platter, sharing plates or individual meals. Definitely try and book in advance and ask for a table outside if the weather is kind! You can also get tasting racks of 5 wines for a bargain $10!
Go for a tasting rack and definitely get a couple of plates to share, I loved the arancini balls!
Food is slightly more on the expensive side, but worth it given the overall experience.
Vudu Cafe and Larder
Run by the same people as Bespoke, this cafe also has good coffee, a super amazing cabinet and also many of the same menu options at Bespoke. It is definitely much more busy than Bespoke, given it's super central and because of this the service and vibe isn't quite as cool.
Go for a coffee and brunch!
Expect standard cafe pricing.
Fergbaker
The best bakery to ever exist. Fresh bread, sammies, donuts, pies. You name it they've got it! So much to choose from and it is all super delicious. It actually gets better reviews than FergBurger itself, so you know its a must!
Get one of the filled sammies, I got the pastrami and loved it!
Super good prices given the size and quality of everything, but definitely more expensive than your average bakery.
Others;
Chop Shop in Arrowtown is absolutely amazing. I also adore FergBurger, and it is definitely worth going here for lunch as you tend to avoid the dinner rush!
NIGHTTIME
Left to right; Madam Woo chicken hawker roll, the Cow exterior, the Cow queen's majesty pizza
The Cow
A super cute spot inside an old building, where you can have a candlelit dinner and wine and dine. Super yum pizza and pasta, huge portions, and the sort of comfort food you absolutely need after a big day of walking, exploring or skiing!
Get a mulled wine and the queen's majesty pizza.
Standard dinner pricing, expect to pay approx $25 for a main and $10 for a drink.
Madam Woo
Very nice interior and a big menu with so many options. Delicious flavours and lovely food but overall probably wouldn't go back again. We are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to asian-western food and given the prices Madam Woo didn't really compare with the likes of White + Wong's which operates at a similar price point and gives much bigger portions.
Get a plum cider and some prawn dumplings!
Very expensive given the portion sizes; $32 for a main sized meal.
DRINKS
1876
The cheapest place for drinks in QT. It is extremely grotty on the inside but if you sit outside as the sun is setting the fairy lights, outdoor fireplace, and sheer number of young and semi drunk people enjoying their time makes it a great experience!
Get a pimm's cup or a pint of cider.
Super cheap, $10 cocktails and pints of cider for $8.
DESSERT
Cookie Time
The place to go for a sweet treat. They do edible cookie dough, shakes and also serve fresh hot cookies. If you're a sweet tooth this place is heaven on earth.
Get a hot cookie (or 2-3) or edible cookie dough!
Average pricing, $8 for 3 cookies.
Patagonia
If you are a choco-holic like me then Patagonia is the best place to head. They do hot chocs, desserts, ice creams and bars of chocolate. Located right alongside the lake their upstairs seating is lovely, and super nice and cosy.
Get a hot choccie and a bar of chocolate for the road or as a gift for friends/family.
Average pricing.
